Acquisition Details
ChaiFlicks has obtained exclusive subscription-video-on-demand (SVOD) rights for both seasons of the comedy series “Kid Sister” in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. The deal covers ten episodes—five per season—each running roughly 20 minutes, and the series is slated to debut on the ChaiFlicks platform this fall. Co-founder Bill Weiner led the negotiations for the streamer, working opposite Fleur Wheatley, vice-president of sales at Seven, the series’ original broadcaster.
Series Background
Created, written and executive-produced by Simone Nathan—known for “Our Flag Means Death” and “Inside Amy Schumer”—the semi-autobiographical show follows 29-year-old Lulu (played by Nathan) as she navigates family expectations and a secret relationship with a non-Jewish boyfriend in Auckland, New Zealand. Originally commissioned by TVNZ, the series is produced by Greenstone TV, with Emily Aderton producing and Aidee Walker directing. Its humor draws on Nathan’s personal experiences and explores broader themes of cultural tradition and personal independence.
Official Statements & Responses
Neil Friedman, co-founder of ChaiFlicks, highlighted Nathan’s “sharp writing, distinctive sense of humor, and authentic portrayal of a young woman navigating a deeply conflicted relationship with herself and her family.” He described her voice as a blend of Lena Dunham and Jenny Slate, calling the series a showcase for her talent. Nathan expressed hope that international audiences will connect with the series, emphasizing its focus on universal pressures to settle down regardless of religion, background or gender. The acquisition aligns with ChaiFlicks’ mission to deliver Jewish-focused content from around the world.
