Historical Context

In June 2014 Moldova signed an EU Association Agreement, launching the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area and a reform agenda. After receiving EU candidate status on 23 June 2022 and a 2024 constitutional amendment pledging EU membership, parliament appointed Vasile Tofan as prime minister on 11 July 2026. He says his cabinet will secure an accession agreement by the end of 2028.
