Zack Wheeler Rejects All-Star Invitation, Citing “Disrespect”

Philadelphia Phillies ace Zack Wheeler turned down a late-season invitation from Major League Baseball to join the National League All-Star roster as an injury replacement. Wheeler entered the 2026 season recovering from thoracic outlet surgery but quickly re-established himself as one of the NL’s top pitchers. Through 14 starts he posted a 9-1 record with a 2.28 ERA, a 0.91 WHIP and 4.3 WAR, striking out 98 batters over 87 innings. The 36-year-old has been an All-Star three times, including each of the past two seasons, and tied a career-high with 14 strikeouts against the Cincinnati Reds shortly after being omitted from the initial replacement list.
