Lost Vinyl, New Life: The Glass Cage’s 1960s Record Resurfaces After Six Decades

In 2016 veteran rock promoter Marcus Pollard bought an unlabeled, physically damaged vinyl at a thrift store for four dollars. The record contained six songs by The Glass Cage, a Canadian indie rock group that performed locally in the 1960s before disbanding. Pollard spent two years searching for any clue to the performers, posting a clip on a Canadian Artists Records Appreciation Facebook page. A reply from Norman Roth—now 77 and working as a warehouse manager—identified the music as his own. After confirming the band’s lineup, Pollard devoted the next eight years to refurbishing the record, digitally remastering the tracks, designing new packaging, and compiling a booklet on the group’s impact on Vancouver’s 1960s indie scene.
