Hollywood Bowl Concert Honors 30 Years of Wes Anderson’s Film Music

The Los Angeles Philharmonic presented the second of three shows at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, spotlighting songs and scores from three decades of Wes Anderson movies. A roster that included Beck, Jackson Browne, Jenny Lewis, Jim James, Jeff Goldblum and others performed fan-favorite tracks ranging from “Gut Feeling” (*The Life Aquatic*) to “The Fairest of the Seasons” (*The Royal Tenenbaums*). Music director Justin Meldal-Johnsen blended orchestral arrangements by Mark Mothersbaugh and Alexandre Desplat with rock-band covers, while guest musicians added taiko drums, flute and sitar to recreate the eclectic soundscapes that define Anderson’s whimsical style.

The concert’s emotional apex arrived when Jackson Browne performed “The Fairest of the Seasons” and “These Days.” Browne explained that he had written “These Days” at 16, and its inclusion in *The Royal Tenenbaums*—spurred by Nico’s cover—became one of Anderson’s most celebrated musical moments. The evening closed with an ensemble rendition of the Faces’ “Ooh La La,” echoing the final track of *Rushmore*.
