TV Time Founder Launches “Bingers” App After Shutting Down Original Service

Anthony Pinto, the founder of the former TV-tracking platform TV Time, announced a new application called Bingers. The app will let users log TV shows and movies, set release reminders, and join fan discussions. Pinto says Bingers will debut on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store by the end of July and is designed to keep “server costs very, very low” so the service can remain operational indefinitely.

TV Time began in 2011 as “TVShow Time,” a side project by Pinto that later rebranded and was sold to Whip Media in 2016. The platform reached 20 million registered users worldwide in 2021 before a subsequent sale to Blue Torch Capital, which intended to add more artificial-intelligence features. In July, TV Time announced it would cease operations on July 15, stating it “was no longer sustainable to continue operating the service as a free app.”

Pinto positions Bingers as a modernized successor that retains TV Time’s most popular functions while employing a streamlined UI and lower infrastructure costs. He emphasizes that the new app will avoid the financial pitfalls that led to TV Time’s shutdown, aiming for long-term viability. The launch will place Bingers in direct competition with existing tracking services such as Serializd and Letterboxd, the latter reportedly exploring a majority-stake sale.
