General Hospital Reaches 16,000 Episodes, Introduces Tribute Character

The 16,000th episode of “General Hospital” aired today on ABC. The episode features the return of Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) to the fictional town of Port Charles, New York, and the reunion of Anna (Finola Hughes) with Valentin (James Patrick). A new surgeon, Dr. Tristan Roberts (Dean Geyer), joins the staff, marking a narrative milestone for the long-running series.

Dr. Tristan Roberts is named in honor of Tristan Rogers, who portrayed Robert Scorpio from 1980 until his death in August 2025. Rogers’ three-decade tenure made the character a staple of the show, and the tribute underscores the series’ practice of acknowledging its legacy talent.

Now in its 64th year, “General Hospital” holds the distinction of being the longest-running scripted American drama and the longest-running American soap opera still in production. The series also leads with 18 Daytime Emmy wins, the most of any daytime program.
