Historical Context

On November 6 1995 Art Modell announced the Browns would move to Baltimore, prompting a settlement that left the team’s name, colors and history in Cleveland and funded a $175 million stadium renovation. The franchise was deactivated for three seasons and returned in 1999 under new owner Al Lerner. On June 1 2024 the revived Browns traded Myles Garrett to the Rams, continuing the rebuild begun after the 1999 comeback.
