The trip follows a series of high-level exchanges marking the 65th anniversary of the 1961 Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between Beijing and Pyongyang. North Korean Premier Pak Thae-song visited Beijing for three days beginning July 10, meeting President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, NPC chairman Zhao Leji, and Politburo member Cai Qi. Last month, President Xi made his first state visit to North Korea since 2019, holding a summit with Kim Jong-un and pledging to strengthen strategic communication and expand bilateral cooperation.
