Nigel Farage Says He’d Need £1 Million Annually to Stand as MP

In March 2024 Farage told senior Reform UK insiders that he would require “a million a year” to offset lost earnings if he stood for Parliament in the 2024 general election. At that time he was earning roughly £98,000 a month (£1.2 million a year) from his GB News presenting role, a figure recorded in the register of members’ financial interests. After announcing his candidacy on 3 June, his GB News earnings fell, with the register showing £40,662 for 12 hours of work in March and £18,402 for six hours in June, averaging over £3,000 per hour.

The discussion preceded an undeclared £5 million transfer from Thailand-based crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, made on 5 April 2024 according to Harborne’s lawyers. Harborne has described the payment as “unconditional”, “expected nothing in return”, and intended for Farage’s personal security and as a “reward” for his Brexit campaigning. Financial-industry sources say part of the sum arrived only at the end of May, shortly before Farage’s candidacy announcement.
