Vijay’s Final Film “Jana Nayagan” Set for Worldwide Release on July 23

The producers of “Jana Nayagan,” the long-awaited swan song of Indian actor-turned-politician Vijay, announced that the film will open in theaters worldwide on July 23, 2026. The UK distributor Ahimsa Entertainment confirmed a July 24 release in British cinemas for the uncut, 15-rated version. Online ticketing platform District has activated reminders and will open bookings shortly.

Originally slated for a January 9 launch to coincide with the Makar Sankranti and Pongal holidays, the release was postponed after a protracted dispute with India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and a piracy breach earlier in the year. On July 9, the CBFC granted the film an A certificate after directing 12 modifications to dialogues and visuals, resulting in brief deletions totalling around 30 seconds while leaving the 183-minute, 11-second runtime unchanged. Vijay, born C Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, retired from acting in 2024 and was sworn in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 9, 2026. His previous release, “The Greatest of All Time” (2024), grossed roughly $52 million.

Producer Venkat K. Narayana of KVN Productions expressed pride in bringing the film to a global audience, noting Vijay’s transition from cinema to politics as a testament to his connection with the public. The CBFC’s certification details confirm compliance with the mandated changes. Ahimsa Entertainment highlighted that UK audiences will see the film “exactly as it was meant to be seen, one last time.” The film also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol and Mamitha Baiju, with music by Anirudh Ravichander.

Vijay’s son Jason’s directorial debut “Sigma,” backed by Lyca Productions and starring Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah, is slated for a July 31 release but may be shifted to August to avoid clashing with “Jana Nayagan.” No official date change has been confirmed.
