Dominik Szoboszlai Nears Long-Term Liverpool Contract Extension

Liverpool have reached an outline agreement with Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai for a new long-term contract. The deal follows months of negotiations between sporting director Richard Hughes and the player’s representatives. Szoboszlai, who has two years left on his current £60 million-fee contract that runs to 2028, is expected to sign the extension in the coming weeks, ending speculation about his future.

Szoboszlai joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023. In the 2024-25 title-winning season he contributed to the club’s success, and in the 2025-26 campaign he recorded 13 goals and 12 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions – the first Liverpool midfielder to reach double figures for both categories since Steven Gerrard in 2013-14. His importance grew as key free-agents Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konaté departed at the end of the previous season, leaving Szoboszlai as a central figure on and off the pitch.

Club officials have indicated that securing Szoboszlai “will be a major boost for new Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola” and may pave the way for his appointment as the club’s new vice-captain, a role vacant since Andy Robertson left.
