Israel Aerospace Industries Unveils “Hypnosis” System to Counter Drone Swarms

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) announced the launch of “Hypnosis,” a system designed to neutralize large-scale drone swarms that rely on satellite navigation. The technology does not destroy incoming drones; instead, it interferes with their GPS signals, preventing accurate navigation toward targets. Field-deployed units operate together under a dedicated command-and-control center, allowing autonomous engagement of multiple threats approaching a single site from different directions. IAI positions the system as a “soft-defense” layer complementing existing kinetic interceptors such as Arrow 3 and Barak MX.

Swarm attacks involving dozens to hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles are described by the company as among the most difficult challenges for modern air-defense systems, capable of overwhelming traditional interceptors. The urgency of the threat has grown since the October 7 war, prompting IAI to accelerate development of new technologies aimed at protecting strategic assets, energy infrastructure, military bases, and force concentrations.

Chairman Boaz Levy emphasized that the modern battlefield “requires integrated and multi-layered defense capabilities capable of dealing with a variety of threats simultaneously.” IAI declined to disclose which foreign militaries, if any, are evaluating the system or whether the Israel Defense Forces will adopt it.
