LG Gaming Monitors and Smart TVs Prompt User Revolt Over Unwanted Software and Voice-Data Policies

Gamers and TV owners have reported that LG gaming monitors automatically install the “LG Monitor App Installer” and McAfee Scam Detector on Windows PCs without permission. The same monitors and LG’s latest webOS-based TVs embed voice-recognition features that, according to the new terms of service, require users to obtain consent from anyone whose voice might be recorded. Online discussions on Reddit and in Gamers Nexus’ YouTube video show growing intolerance for these practices.

McAfee’s inclusion is described as “bloatware” that many users discover unexpectedly on their PCs.
