Tyler Herro’s Move from Miami to Milwaukee

In February 2024 the Miami Heat completed a multi-asset deal that sent guard Tyler Herro, forward Kel’el Ware, rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr., prospect Kasparas Jakucionis, the draft rights to Nate Ament, two future first-round picks, a future first-round pick swap and a future second-round pick to the Milwaukee Bucks. In exchange, Miami acquired two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, ending Herro’s seven-year tenure with the Heat.

During his stint, Herro earned one All-Star selection, a Sixth Man of the Year award and helped the Heat reach the NBA Finals in 2020 and 2023. A Milwaukee native who attended Whitnall High School before playing at Kentucky, he now returns to a Bucks roster that includes veterans Kyle Kuzma, Myles Turner, Caris LeVert, Kevin Porter Jr. and Gary Trent Jr., plus several young prospects.

Head coach Erik Spoelstra explained that the Heat “poured everything into” Herro when he arrived as a teenager and that the player “accomplished some terrific things over the course of those seven years.” Spoelstra stressed that “trades are always part of the NBA, and it’s just how the business of the league is,” while expressing enthusiasm about Antetokounmpo’s arrival. Heat president Pat Riley also referenced Herro’s recent altercation with Bam Adebayo during the introductory press conference for Antetokounmpo.
