GSA to Share Automation Successes at Emerging Technology Showcase

The General Services Administration (GSA) will host an Emerging Technology Showcase on July 30 at the Interior Department’s Yates Auditorium. The event, open to all federal employees, will also be livestreamed for a virtual audience that organizers expect to number in the tens of thousands. The showcase follows an internal tech demo day held in late spring, during which GSA staff—including Deputy Administrator Mike Lynch and Chief Information Officer Dave Shive—demonstrated tools that improve efficiency, service delivery, and employee workload.

GSA’s 2026 “moonshot” aims to save and automate 1 million employee work hours across the agency. According to the agency, it has already identified roughly 850,000 hours that can be eliminated or streamlined, putting the effort “far ahead of schedule.” The progress is documented in the Elimination, Optimization and Automation (EOA) playbook, released in June. The playbook compiles lessons from federal pilots, mature automation programs, and GSA’s own internal initiatives, and will be highlighted at the July 30 forum as a resource for other agencies seeking similar efficiencies.
