The Centre for Media Monitoring (CMM) analysed 3,733 articles about Islam or Muslims published by *The Spectator* over an eight-year span. More than half—over 2,100 pieces—were rated “biased” or “very biased.” The report identified recurring editorial techniques, including a “Problem Population” narrative that frames British Muslims as a dangerous monolith seeking to “colonise” secular society, and the repeated use of inflammatory language such as “semi-literate, virgin-obsessed potential murderers among our midst.” The study also noted the magazine’s platforming of far-right agitator Tommy Robinson with praise describing him as “intelligent, quick, articulate, well-informed, [and] good-mannered.”

Rizwana Hamid, director of the CMM, said the daily regurgitation of threat-based narratives is actively harmful and fuels public association of Islam with terrorism. Guardian columnist Nesrine Malik described Islamophobia as a “vehicle for laundering broader racist and anti-immigration sentiments.” Former *Spectator* political editor Peter Oborne, in the report’s foreword, traced the magazine’s shift from condemning Enoch Powell’s anti-immigration politics to rebuilding his reputation as a leading conservative influence.
