Brottman’s book, published in 2025, recounts events triggered by the December 2000 disappearance of Mike Williams in the Florida panhandle. No body was recovered, and the case remained unsolved for more than a decade. Five years after the disappearance, Williams’s longtime friend Brian Winchester divorced his wife Kathy and married Williams’s widow Denise. The truth of the murder emerged twelve years later, providing the factual backbone for the series’ exploration of love, faith, and long-term criminality.
