Turkey’s Alleged Readiness to Aid Iran Amid Kurdish Incursion Plans

Israeli media reported that Turkey was prepared to give Iran aerial military support if Kurdish militias attempted an incursion into Iran during the Israeli-U.S. war on Iran earlier this year. A report aired by Israeli public broadcaster Kan 11 said Ankara warned it would act to prevent a Kurdish advance and discussed the option of providing Iran with aerial defence against Israeli and U.S. air strikes.

The alleged Turkish readiness is linked to a broader Israeli-U.S. plan, first outlined in February, to back a Kurdish incursion aimed at destabilising Tehran. Israeli and U.S. officials reportedly intended the operation to topple the Iranian government and even considered reinstating former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, according to a New York Times investigation. The plan surfaced amid a ten-day exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran.
