At the same time, U.S. electric-vehicle (EV) sales have slowed; a July 2026 Cox Automotive report shows a 23.8 % year-over-year decline in pure-EV sales. Kovar, 64, purchased a Ford F-150 last fall after the 2021 storm left him relying on pool water for toilet flushing. He installed Ford’s home-integration system, which links the truck directly to his electric meter. The system allows him to select which home circuits receive power from the vehicle, providing a practical backup during future outages.
