History

Historical Context

Hitler’s birthplace in Braunau am Inn became part of Nazi Germany after the 1938 Anschluss, when German troops entered Austria without resistance and a plebiscite later reported 99.7% support. After World II Austria was restored as a sovereign state by the 1955 State Treaty. In 2026 the former house is being turned into a police station, symbolically repurposing a site of the former totalitarian regime.
