Season 3 Preview Unveiled at Comic-Con
Disney+ presented the opening moments of the upcoming third season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The footage shows Thalia Grace confronting a monster in a parking garage, with Percy Jackson joining the fight despite Thalia’s reluctance. After the battle, Annabeth Chase appears and explains that she has asked Percy to help rescue two demigods—presumed to be Nico and Bianca di Angelo—and bring them to Camp Half-Blood. The scene establishes lingering tension between Percy and Thalia, echoing the series’ previous season finale. Disney+ confirmed that the new season will debut in November.
Series Background and Recent Releases
The series adapts Rick Riordan’s bestselling novels, with Season 1 covering “The Lightning Thief” and concluding in early 2024. Season 2, based on “The Sea of Monsters,” wrapped up in January of this year and re-introduced Thalia Grace, setting up her larger role in the forthcoming installment. The show has been positioned as a faithful translation of the books, a claim reinforced by the actors’ comments at the panel.
Returning Cast and New Additions
Walker Scobell returns as Percy Jackson, Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, and Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase. Tamara Smart reprises Thalia Grace, while Holt McCallany appears as the Titan Atlas. Additional returning performers include Charlie Bushnell (Luke Castellan), Daniel Diemer (Tyson) and Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse La Rue). New characters introduced this season are Nico di Angelo (Levi Chrisopulos), Bianca di Angelo (Olive Abercrombie), Zoë Nightshade (Saara Chaudry), Apollo (Hubert Smielecki), Aphrodite (Kate McKinnon) and Hera (Ming-Na Wen). Scobell stated that Season 3 feels the most accurate adaptation of Riordan’s source material to date.
Production Team and Creative Direction
Rick Riordan co-created the series with Jonathan E. Steinberg, who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Craig Silverstein and Dan Shotz. Executive producers also include Riordan and his wife Rebecca Riordan, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg of the Gotham Group, Bert Salke, James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler and Sarah Watson.
