Reason for the Change
A joint statement from the Paris police prefecture and the Tour de France organizers cited the need to redeploy internal security forces to combat major wildfires in southwestern France. The fires are centered in the Gironde region, affecting areas such as Arcachon Bay, Bordeaux’s outskirts, and the Landes coast near Biscarrosse. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez reported that the blaze lay roughly 20–30 km west of Bordeaux and that fire crews were using retardant drops, trenches and additional personnel to contain it.

The team presentation will still occur in Thoiry, but the competitive portion of the stage will be confined to Paris. The shortened distance removes the 58 km segment that would have linked Thoiry to the capital. The Montmartre circuit remains intact, preserving the stage’s signature climb. Background on the Wildfire Situation
The Gironde fires are part of a broader heat-driven wildfire outbreak affecting France and neighboring Spain.
