Black Panther III Casts New Panther and Sets a 2028 Release

Marvel announced at its Comic-Con Hall H panel that David Jonsson will portray Prince T’Challa II, the son of T’Challa and Nakia, as the new Black Panther in the third installment of the franchise. The film will also see Leticia Wright return as Shuri and Winston Duke as M’Baku, with Ryan Coogler reprising his role as director. Jonsson, who recently appeared in “Alien Romulus” and the Stephen King adaptation “The Long Walk,” steps into the mantle first introduced in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”

The sequel is slated for a theatrical debut in December 2028. Coogler indicated that the production will require additional development time, noting the need for a “break” and a period of regrouping before returning “to the lab.” This schedule follows the 2022 release of “Wakanda Forever,” which concluded the storyline that introduced T’Challa II.

The original “Black Panther” (2018) earned approximately $1.3 billion worldwide and secured seven Oscar nominations, winning three awards. Its sequel, “Wakanda Forever,” grossed $859 million globally and posted a $331 million opening weekend, marking one of the most profitable post-pandemic launches.
