Ryan Gosling to Portray Ghost Rider in Marvel’s 2028 Film

Marvel Studios executive Kevin Feige announced onstage in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con that Ryan Gosling – known for “Project Hail Mary” – will assume the mantle of Ghost Rider in a new standalone Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. The film is slated for release in 2028 and will be directed by Shawn Levy.

The Spirit of Vengeance first appeared on screen in Nicolas Cage’s 2007 Sony production “Ghost Rider” and its 2011 sequel “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance,” both of which received largely negative reviews. Marvel later reinvented the character for the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., casting Gabriel Luna as the younger, Latino Robbie Reyes version. Luna was slated to reprise the role in a Hulu series, but that project was cancelled in 2019. The rights to Ghost Rider have since reverted to Marvel Studios, paving the way for Gosling’s casting.

Levy, who directed and produced the blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine,” will helm the Ghost Rider film. He and Gosling recently collaborated on the upcoming “Star Wars: Starfighter,” which is scheduled to release on May 28, 2027. Gosling’s involvement in both the Marvel and Star Wars franchises marks a significant year for the actor, following his lead role in “Project Hail Mary.”
