Cusack rose to prominence in the 1980s with roles in *Sixteen Candles* (1984) and *Better Off Dead* (1985) and later starred in films such as *High Fidelity*, *Being John Malkovich*, and *Grosse Pointe Blank*. In recent years his on-screen presence has narrowed: he appeared in *Fog of War* and the Mandarin-language hit *Detective Chinatown 1900* in 2023, in *Pursuit* (2022), and in the war drama *Decoded* (2024). His sister, actress Joan Cusack, made a public return at the London premiere of *Toy Story 5*, reprising Jessie.
