London Trans+ Pride March Presses for Policy Reversal and Better Care

Organisers estimated that about 150,000 people marched through central London in the world’s largest trans-pride event. The procession began near the BBC headquarters, wound past Teresa Margolles’s sculpture of 726 trans, non-binary and gender-non-conforming faces, and finished on the steps of Trafalgar Square. Protesters displayed placards such as “let people piss in peace” and “these meds save lives,” demanding that Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham intervene to reverse policies they say threaten trans people.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) recently issued guidance requiring single-sex services to be allocated on the basis of biological sex, not gender identity. The guidance follows a Supreme Court judgment in April 2025 that interpreted the Equality Act 2010’s terms “woman” and “sex” as referring to biological women. Activists argue the guidance, together with the Department for Education’s “Keeping Children Safe in Education” advice—described by some as “Section 28 mark two”—creates a hostile environment for trans youth.

Caroline Litman, co-founder of the parent-advocacy group Transparent Action, told the Press Association that her daughter Alice Litman, who died by suicide in May 2022 after waiting 1,023 days for gender-affirming care, would have survived if the system had acted sooner.
