49ers Enter Training Camp Focused on Present Roster, Not Brandon Aiyuk

General manager John Lynch opened the 2024 training camp by confirming that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remains on the NFL’s reserve/left-team list. Because of that designation, Aiyuk is not counted on the 90-man roster and must first seek league reinstatement before any trade or release can occur. The 49ers have not pursued a trade this offseason, and Aiyuk has declined to request reinstatement. Over recent weeks, Aiyuk has posted on social media that he will not return to the 49ers’ facilities unless the team faces the Washington Commanders on Oct. 19, and he has highlighted a $10 million home purchase in Loudoun County, Virginia, near Washington’s practice site.

Four players will start camp on the active physically unable-to-perform (PUP) list: tight end George Kittle (Achilles), defensive tackle Alfred Collins (shoulder), defensive end Mykel Williams (ACL) and running back Isaac Guerendo (pectoral). Kittle, who tore his right Achilles in January, hopes to be ready for the season opener on Sept. 10 in Melbourne, Australia. Collins could be activated as early as the second practice window late next week if his rehab stays on track, while Williams is targeting a Week 1 return but is expected to miss part of camp.
