Shea Langeliers’ Torn Meniscus Likely Ends His 2026 Season and Halts Trade Talks

Sources told ESPN that Athletics All-Star catcher Shea Langeliers suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee while running the bases. The 28-year-old will decide whether to undergo surgery; if he follows the expected surgical route, he will be sidelined for the remainder of the year. Regardless of the treatment choice, the injury is “almost certain” to end any pending trade discussions involving Langeliers.

Oakland’s 2026 campaign has been plagued by injuries and underperformance. The team sits at 44-60, carrying the league-worst minus-122 run differential. Pitching struggles are reflected in a 5.37 ERA, while the offense has been hampered by a season-ending knee surgery for slugger Brent Rooker and additional setbacks to Nick Kurtz and Jacob Wilson. Langeliers has been described as the “heartbeat” and best player on the roster.
