Ukraine Endures Deadliest Month of Civilian Casualties Since 2022 Amid Surge in Russian Missile and Drone Attacks

Ukrainian government figures show that Russian strikes this month have killed at least 377 civilians and injured 2,129, marking the highest civilian death toll in the conflict since April 2022. The casualties stem from a concentrated wave of attacks on populated areas, including multiple strikes on Kyiv.

In the past week, Russian forces deployed roughly 1,700 drones, more than 1,630 guided aerial bombs, and over 50 ballistic missiles, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. Ballistic missiles, which are difficult for existing air-defence systems to intercept, have been a prominent feature of the campaign. The attacks have also targeted Ukrainian ports on the Black Sea, fuel stations in the north, and infrastructure along the Danube River, while Ukraine continues its own drone and missile strikes against Russian energy facilities.

For the third consecutive day, the Romanian Air Force shot down a Russian drone over the Black Sea, intercepting it above Romanian territorial waters. Romanian President Nicusor Dan described the incursion as “inadmissible and intolerable,” and the Romanian Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador in Bucharest to protest the breach.
