Core Deal Overview
On July 27, Naver Corp., South Korea’s leading internet platform, announced that Nvidia will purchase $1 billion of newly issued shares. The transaction is intended to finance the expansion of Naver’s AI data-centre operations. The agreement follows a June-month joint statement by the two companies to develop gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure for the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and the Middle East.
Funding Structure and Share Details
Naver disclosed that it will issue 7.2 million new shares to Nvidia at 204,500 won each, representing a 1 % discount to the closing price on the preceding Friday. The share issue will give Nvidia a 4.5 % stake in Naver, making it one of the company’s largest shareholders. Naver also confirmed that Brookfield will act as the capital partner, providing up to $9 billion in financing, bringing total project funding to as much as $10 billion.
Data-Centre Capacity and Timeline
The new AI facility will be built at Naver’s GAK data centre in Sejong, South Korea, and is slated to reach a power capacity of 200 megawatts by 2028. Naver highlighted that the project will employ Nvidia’s Vera Rubin and Blackwell chip platforms. In the earlier June agreement, the firms referenced a target of one gigawatt of AI-compute capacity—roughly four times the current maximum output of the GAK Sejong site, which is South Korea’s largest hyperscale data centre.
Strategic Implications for Asian AI Infrastructure
By securing Nvidia’s equity investment and Brookfield’s financing, Naver aims to position South Korea as a hub for sovereign AI services across the region. The expanded capacity is expected to accommodate “hundreds of thousands” of Nvidia GPUs, supporting growing demand for high-performance AI workloads. The partnership also underscores Nvidia’s strategy to deepen its presence in the Asia-Pacific market through direct equity stakes in key technology providers.
