Allegations of Domestic Abuse Target Rep. Max Miller (R-Ohio)

Police footage obtained by CNN in June shows a February interview between Ohio-based Bay Village police and Rep. Max Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, the daughter of Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno. In that interview Moreno alleges that Miller once held a gun to her head during an argument, yelled at her while she was changing their infant’s diaper, and physically assaulted her, including throwing her into a wall. She also claims Miller accused her of “taking away his parenting time” during a birthday-party pickup. The Ohio Department of Children and Youth investigated a separate incident in March in which Miller’s two-year-old daughter suffered a broken collarbone; investigators could not determine whether neglect or abuse occurred.

In May, Miller filed a defamation lawsuit against Moreno, asserting she suffers from bipolar disorder—a claim Moreno’s attorneys deny. Earlier, Miller’s former girlfriend, former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham, accused him of breaching a confidentiality agreement tied to a prior defamation case. Both disputes have been publicized but have not resulted in criminal charges.

When asked about the allegations against Miller (and Rep. Sen. Bernie Moreno, whose daughter is the accuser, offered only a brief comment that he loves his daughter and prioritizes her and his granddaughter’s safety, declining to call for Miller’s resignation or expulsion.
