DHS Statistics Chief Resigns, Citing Administration’s “War on Immigrants”

Marc Rosenblum, the executive director of the Office of Homeland Security Statistics and a deputy assistant secretary at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), announced his resignation.

During the second Trump term, DHS has been at the center of controversy, including high-profile ICE raids, expanded detention-center networks, and efforts to limit public data on immigration enforcement. Rosenblum, a longtime immigration-policy specialist who also served in the first Trump and Biden administrations, was tasked in 2023 with consolidating statistics across DHS’s 22 component agencies. His office was meant to aggregate data ranging from Coast Guard interdictions to Southwest-border crossings, a role previously fragmented across siloed units.

A former colleague, speaking to WIRED, described the challenge of unifying data from the many agencies and noted that Rosenblum’s office had peaked at 45 staff members during the Biden years before shrinking under the current administration.
