The 2007 Ghost Rider film, released February 16 2007, starred Nicolas Cage, cost $110 million and earned $229 million worldwide despite negative reviews. Its 2012 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, followed, but the franchise stalled until Sony’s rights reverted to Marvel Studios in May 2013.
