Ed Sheeran Co-writes KATSEYE’s New Single “Animal”

KATSEYE released the single “Animal” on July 24, marking the first official song co-written by the four-time Grammy winner Ed Sheeran and the Mexican-origin girl group. The track appears on the group’s forthcoming EP WILD, slated for release in mid-August, and is accompanied by a music video featuring actress Demi Moore.

Sheeran first encountered KATSEYE’s breakout hit “Gnarly” while traveling in Mexico the previous year. Impressed by the song, he reached out to the group on Instagram, offering to write a song for them. The collaboration unfolded in the studio, where Sheeran helped craft the chorus and guided the members—Daniela, Lara, and Megan—through the recording process.

According to Billboard, Sheeran’s career includes two Hot 100 No. 1 hits and four Billboard 200 chart-toppers. KATSEYE entered the Hot 100 with “Gnarly” and later peaked at No. 21 with “Gabriela” this year. The new single “Animal” will be featured on the EP WILD, expected in mid-August, while a documentary film titled *KATSEYE: WILD HEARTS* is slated for early August. Sheeran will resume the North American leg of his Loop Tour in early August, beginning in Seattle.

On July 28, Sheeran posted an Instagram caption explaining his enthusiasm for KATSEYE’s music and confirming the joint effort on “Animal.” In the behind-the-scenes video, he also described the song’s lyrical theme as revealing a side of people that is usually hidden behind “closed doors.”
