Jenny Lee Smith: From 1976 Open Champion to Golf’s Elder Stateswoman

In the inaugural Women’s British Open in 1976, Jenny Lee Smith secured victory despite a severe chest infection that left her “groggy.” The tournament, held at Fulford near York, awarded a £210 first prize, which Smith could not collect because she was an amateur.
