Lidl issued a nationwide recall of its Eridanous Shortbread Cookies with Chocolate Truffle Coating & Apricot Filling after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted a notice on July 28. The recall covers all units sold in Lidl’s U.S. stores because the packaging was printed in a foreign language and omitted English ingredient, nutrition, and allergen information. Lidl said the recall applies to every store in ten states and the District of Columbia.
Product Details and Distribution
The recalled product is an 11.6-ounce (330 g) package bearing UPC 4056489125839. It was distributed to Lidl locations in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia. Sales occurred between July 15 and July 22, according to the company’s notice.
Health Risk Warning
Lidl warned that the cookies contain four allergens—wheat, soy, milk and eggs—that were not disclosed on the packaging. As of late July, Lidl reported no illnesses linked to the cookies.
Consumer Guidance and Refund Process
Customers who have an allergy or sensitivity to the listed ingredients are instructed to discard the cookies or return them to any Lidl store for a full refund, regardless of whether a receipt is available. The company provided a U.S. Customer Care Hotline at 747-5435, open Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. ET, for additional questions.
Status and Follow-up
USA TODAY contacted Lidl on July 29 to obtain the total number of recalled units; the chain has not released that figure publicly. Lidl confirmed that all affected inventory has been removed from shelves and that the recall remains in effect until all units are returned or destroyed. No further actions have been announced.
