Michael B. Jordan Reimagines “The Thomas Crown Affair” for a 2027 Release

Michael B. Jordan will direct, produce, and star as the titular art thief in a new version of *The Thomas Crown Affair*. The film, written by Drew Pearce, pairs Jordan’s Thomas Crown with former FBI agent (and insurance investigator) played by Adria Arjona. Supporting cast members include Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, and Pilou Asbæk. Amazon MGM Studios has scheduled the theatrical debut for March 5, 2027.

The story originated in Norman Jewison’s 1968 film, where Steve McQueen portrayed Crown opposite Faye Dunaway. John McTiernan’s 1999 remake featured Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Jordan’s version follows his successful directorial debut with *Creed III* (2023) and his Oscar-winning performance in *Sinners* (2023). The new adaptation is positioned as a “reimagination” rather than a straightforward remake, aiming to update the premise for contemporary audiences.

He frames his version as more personal, with Crown’s motives tied to returning stolen artifacts to their rightful creators. The production involves Outlier Society, Atlas Entertainment, and executive producer Alan Trustman, the writer of the original screenplay. Composer Jon Batiste, an eight-time Grammy winner, will provide the score.
