Record-Low White Voter Approval for President Donald Trump

A CNN/SSRS poll released in July 2026 shows President Donald Trump’s net approval rating among white Americans at -20, the lowest point recorded in the series. The same survey places his overall net approval at -32, matching the level recorded after the January 6 2021 Capitol attack. Overall approval stands at 34 percent, also a career low.

The poll was fielded July 23–27 among a probability-based panel of 1,225 U.S. adults, with interviews conducted online or by telephone and a margin of error of ±3.2 percentage points. Net approval among white voters moved from 0 in July 2025 to -20 in July 2026, after brief rebounds earlier in the year. Issue-specific ratings were poor: 25 percent approved of Trump’s handling of inflation, 21 percent approved of his management of gas prices, and 28 percent approved of his approach to the conflict with Iran. A record 73 percent of respondents said Trump has not paid enough attention to the country’s most important problems, while roughly two-thirds felt he is out of touch with ordinary Americans.

Republican approval of Trump fell to 78 percent, the lowest during his tenure, and 19 percent of Republicans reported enthusiasm for the remainder of his second term, down from 38 percent the previous spring.
