Josh Richardson Calls It a Career After a Decade in the NBA

Former Miami Heat guard Josh Richardson used Instagram on July 29 to confirm that he is retiring from professional basketball. In the post he reflected on his work ethic and love for the game, signaling the end of a ten-year NBA tenure.

Richardson entered the league as the No. 40 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, selected by the Miami Heat. He spent his first four seasons in Miami before being included in the sign-and-trade package that sent Jimmy Butler to the Heat. After a single season with the Philadelphia 76ers, he was dealt to the Dallas Mavericks, then moved on to the Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs, and New Orleans Pelicans. Richardson returned to Miami for two more seasons, was traded to the Utah Jazz in early 2025, and was waived without appearing in a game. He did not play during the 2025-26 season.

CBS Sports reports that Richardson appeared in 554 regular-season games, averaging 11.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 36.3 % from three-point range in 28.5 minutes per game. His most productive season came in 2018-19 with Miami, when he posted a career-high 16.6 points per game over 73 contests.
