President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that negotiators had reached what he called a “historic agreement” to end Hamas’ control of Gaza. He added that the deal would pave the way for a new Palestinian government to work alongside the Board of Peace while guaranteeing Israel “the security it deserves.”

The reported framework calls for Hamas and other armed factions to surrender both heavy and light weapons over a six- to eight-month period. Parties would disclose the locations of tunnels and weapons depots, after which an independent verification process would confirm demilitarization. Only after verification would Israeli forces withdraw, and an international stabilization force would assist a newly formed Palestinian police force in maintaining security. The plan envisions a phased implementation: weapons surrender, verification, Israeli pull-out, and the gradual assumption of governance by the new Palestinian authority.

Axios reported that U.S. officials and the Board of Peace believe Hamas could formally sign the agreement within days.
