Nethmi Kariyawasam of Oxford University’s Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment argues that passive design measures—such as shading, shutters, and strategic building orientation—should be prioritized. She suggests that air-conditioning be treated as a last resort for homes already experiencing excessive heat.
