Mahershala Ali Confirms Blade Reboot Won’t Proceed

Two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali has publicly confirmed that the Marvel Studios “Blade” reboot will not move forward. He added that, despite being under contract, Marvel’s decision not to proceed means the film is effectively cancelled.

Marvel announced Ali’s casting as the titular vampire-hunting anti-hero at Comic-Con in 2019, reviving a role originally played by Wesley Snipes in three films from 1998-2004. The reboot entered a prolonged development phase, cycling through directors Bassam Tariq and later Yann Demange, and multiple screenwriters. By 2022, Tariq departed the production, and the project remained in “development hell” with no green-light. Ali continued training for the role and even voiced Blade in a post-credits scene of 2021’s *Eternals*, but the film never entered production.
