UVW notes that roughly 33 % of the video-game workforce lost jobs over the past two years, and that many remaining positions are being eliminated as studios turn to artificial-intelligence solutions. The union’s hardship fund, announced earlier in July and originally financed by membership dues, provides two tiers of assistance: requests for under $1,000 and requests for $1,000-to-$5,000. UVW reports that it has already distributed “upwards of” $25,000 to 30 applicants, many of whom have faced housing loss, reliance on food assistance, or delayed medical treatment.

The campaign targets a $100,000 goal. At the time of reporting, it had raised $20,000, with the highest individual contribution recorded at $2,000. The bundle’s $10 price point represents a discount of roughly 99 % compared to the combined MSRP of the included games, which exceeds $1,000. Early figures show the bundle has generated more than $6,000 for the fund, supplementing the union’s existing disbursements.
