Ranbir Kapoor Addresses Backlash Over Portraying Lord Rama

After the first trailer for *Ramayana: Part 1* was released, social-media users questioned whether Ranbir Kapoor was an appropriate choice to embody the deity Lord Rama. The actor acknowledged the criticism, noting that every devotee visualises the figure differently and that the debate was inevitable. He said his initial thought was whether he was “worthy” of the role, and he later recognised the responsibility extended beyond merely playing a character.

*Ramayana: Part 1* is a two-part mythological saga directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari. In addition to Lord Rama, Kapoor also portrays Lord Parshurama, requiring distinct physicality and vocal choices for each avatar. Co-producer Namit Malhotra and actor Yash, who plays Ravana, are also attached to the project. The film seeks to present a contemporary cinematic interpretation of a narrative that has shaped Indian culture for millennia.

He added that his preparation involved a year of study into the motivations and philosophies of both characters. Co-star Yash, describing the part of Ravana as one of the toughest for an actor, praised Kapoor’s performance as “marvellous,” highlighting the actor’s dedication and the sincerity he brings to the portrayal.
