- Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar activated the emergency plan after a magnitude-5.6 earthquake near Suez.
- The quake struck 3:00 a.m., lasted 15 seconds, and was 40 km north of Suez at 10 km depth.
- The tremor was felt in Greater Cairo, Arish, Sinai, Jordan and southern Palestine, but no injuries or damage were reported.
