Ja'Lynn Polk Retires Early in Saints Training Camp

Wide receiver Ja’Lynn Polk, 24, announced his retirement from the NFL less than a week after the New Orleans Saints began training camp. The team placed him on the reserve/retired list on Sunday, ending a career that began when the New England Patriots selected him with the 37th overall pick in the 2024 draft. Polk never appeared in a regular-season game for the Saints, having been traded to New Orleans last September while on the Patriots’ injured reserve list.

The Patriots acquired Polk in 2024 and used him primarily as a depth option, recording 12 catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games. In September of the previous year, New Orleans obtained Polk and a 2028 seventh-round pick from New England in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round selection. The trade was made despite Polk’s shoulder injury that placed him on injured reserve, with the Saints anticipating his contribution to a crowded wide-receiver group that includes three rookie receivers, among them first-round pick Jordyn Tyson.
