Early Access Multiplayer Beta
The Coalition confirmed an open early-access beta beginning on August 6. Eligibility for the first weekend (August 6 – 10) requires a pre-order, an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, or PC Game Pass membership. A second weekend (August 13 – 17) will be open to all Xbox Series and PC players.
Gameplay and Multiplayer Modes
E-Day returns to the series’ third-person, cover-based shooter roots. Players can experience the single-player campaign solo, cooperatively with up to four online participants, or locally with two players via split-screen on consoles (the PC version lacks local co-op).
Multiplayer includes two flagship modes:
- Horde Siege – a 12-player PvE mode that divides participants into three squads of four, each pursuing independent objectives on the largest multiplayer map in franchise history.
- Versus – a classic 4v4 competitive arena with new mechanics aimed at faster, more fluid matches.
Both modes support online play, and Horde Siege will receive seasonal customization packs post-launch.
Development and Creative Vision
Creative director Matt Searcy explained that E-Day tells the origin story of Marcus Fenix and Dominic “Dom” Santiago, focusing on the formation of their brotherhood at the onset of the Locust invasion. The Coalition highlighted Horde Siege as a “more dynamic and varied experience” that places three squads on a shared battlefield.

Why It Matters
E-Day is the franchise’s first mainline entry since 2019 and the first narrative set on the “Emergence Day” timeline, offering a fresh entry point for veterans and newcomers. Its exclusive Xbox release bolsters Microsoft’s first-party lineup, while day-one Game Pass availability adds value to the service. The new Horde Siege mode and updated Versus mechanics aim to refresh the series’ multiplayer appeal.
What’s Next
The Coalition indicated that additional multiplayer maps will be released post-launch at no extra cost, with further seasonal customization packs and content updates planned.
