Parno Mittra Debuts as Producer with “The Music Teacher”

“The Music Teacher,” a British-Indian short film set in North Kolkata, follows a young man battling depression who finds renewal through a teacher of Rabindra Sangeet—the body of songs composed by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The story is positioned as a tribute to the genre and to the educators who have sustained Bengal’s musical heritage across generations.

Acclaimed Bengali-cinema actor Parno Mittra is producing the film as the inaugural project of her new banner, Unscripted Co, in partnership with the U.K. outfit Tabernacle Street Films. The film is written and directed by Shrimoyee Chakraborty, whose previous work includes the documentary “Spirit of the Wildflower” and the series “India Bites.” Raima Sen headlines the cast as the titular music teacher, with Niranjan Mondal in a supporting role. Veteran editor Aarti Bajaj, known for “Jab We Met” and “Sacred Games,” joins as co-producer, bringing extensive editorial experience to the production.
