Bending Spoons Acquires Airtable for $1.28 Billion in Cash

8/4/2026, 8:47:30 PM

Core Transaction

On August 4, Italian technology group Bending Spoons announced an all-cash purchase of U.S. software firm Airtable for approximately $1.28 billion. The deal values Airtable at about $2.25 billion based on its net cash-and-cash-equivalents balance. The acquisition marks Bending Spoons’ first purchase since its Nasdaq debut last month.

Background and Valuation History

Airtable, founded in 2013, combines spreadsheet and database functions to let organizations build applications and manage workflows without coding. After raising more than $1.4 billion across several funding rounds, the company peaked at a valuation exceeding $11 billion during the 2021 boom. Earlier this year, secondary-market trading suggested a $4 billion valuation, while the current cash position supports the $2.25 billion figure cited by Bending Spoons. Bending Spoons, which went public at an $18 billion valuation in July, has a track record of acquiring digital brands—such as Evernote, WeTransfer, Eventbrite, and Vimeo—and applying a private-equity-style restructuring model.

Financial Details and Market Reaction

Airtable reported annual recurring revenue of roughly $480 million as of June 2026, reflecting a year-over-year growth rate of more than 20 %. Its CEO Howie Liu previously highlighted that the platform serves over 500,000 organizations, including 80 % of the Fortune 100, and introduced the “Superagent” orchestration platform for AI-driven task automation. Bending Spoons founder Luca Ferrari said the acquisition will accelerate innovation and expand the company’s data-management capabilities. Following the announcement, Bending Spoons shares closed at $36.22, well above the IPO price of $29.

Strategic Implications

The purchase aligns with Bending Spoons’ aggressive expansion strategy, adding a high-growth, low-code workflow tool to its portfolio. By integrating Airtable’s sizable enterprise customer base and AI-agent technology, Bending Spoons aims to deepen its foothold in the collaborative software market while pursuing profitability through operational streamlining. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the year, pending regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions.
